How do you become a Therapeutic Foster Carer?

A specialised form of fostering called therapeutic fostering is created to help kids and teenagers who have been through trauma before entering care. Many children who are taken in foster care have had extremely rocky starts in life, frequently suffering from abuse, neglect, or other severe disruptions. Some children require additional care, even though dedication and a loving environment can go a long way.

In contrast to regular foster care, therapeutic foster care (TFC) offers short-term in-home care for children and teens with severe mental health diagnoses or emotional and behavioural issues. Depending on the child's TFC goals, the care may last for weeks or months.

At UK Fostering, we want skilled foster families to tenderly care for kids with behavioural health challenges by guiding them toward objectives, maturing, and reintegrating them into their homes and communities.

Families who value children must commit to TFC and have a significant need to do so. Prospective parents get intensive training and assistance from UK Fostering, following which they will be officially licenced to look after one or two children with behavioural health diagnoses.

Every child in our care at UK Fostering has a unique treatment plan to meet their needs. After being evaluated by our in-house therapists, they might require specialised foster child therapy. Depending on their circumstances, a kid or young person may get a child and adolescent psychotherapy, speech and language therapy, art and play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and more. Another crucial aspect of our therapeutic approach to foster care is that it enables the foster parent to actively participate in the child's therapy team to enhance the child's psychological and emotional well-being.

How to become a therapeutic foster parent?

You must be over 21, have a spare bedroom, be able to work legally in the UK and be fully dedicated to the kid in your care to qualify to become a therapeutic foster parent.
You don't need to have any prior fostering experience because we'll ensure you're trained in the best therapeutic care techniques, but you should be composed patient, and eager to learn more about yourself and the kids you'll be caring for.
You'll be able to think carefully about other people's emotions and be an excellent communicator and listener.

To better the lives of children, a group of committed professionals founded UK Fostering, an independent fostering agency. We serve children and local authorities with adequately trained, caring and competent foster care when they need it most. Together, we genuinely alter lives.
