What is Step Down Foster Care?

A specialised placement called step-down fostering helps young people go from institutional environments, such as children's homes, to a family environment. Over 6,900 kids were placed in residential care (children's homes) last year.

Residential care may be the best environment for some young people to meet their requirements. This might only apply to some kids, though. Many wind up living in a children's home far from their homes since there is no available fostering family, forcing them into residential care.

Children and young adults who could benefit from the stability of family life and the experience of a warm, loving, and nurturing environment with foster parents who are there to meet their needs are our priority. We want to make a meaningful and lasting impact in their lives.

We think that foster care placements benefit kids more than residential placements do. Our hypothesis is supported by the evidence, which demonstrates that, over time, children and adolescents put in foster care can go on to achieve more and form tighter bonds and healthier connections.

We know that many choose to become foster parents to change the lives of young people. One of the biggest and most significant adjustments a step-down foster parent can make is successfully helping a kid, or young person lives in a family. It's also quite satisfying.

Step-down fostering isn't for everyone, and individuals with previous foster care or residential care experience are probably best suited for this fostering. UK Fostering's primary goal is to give the best foster carer support possible. Our customer service is well-regarded and accredited. We recognise that the more resources you have at your disposal, the more assured you will feel. We are dedicated to making it accessible to you because of this. Our social workers are residents who also work there. There are other foster parents close by, and we connect you with them through events and monthly meetings. To ensure we are there for you and can support the children and young people in your care, our entire business strategy is predicated on being local and national.

You'll unavoidably develop as a foster parent throughout your employment. Every step of this is necessary for development. Training is another essential element. Your awareness of therapeutic foster care will grow thanks to our foster carer training, which supports your daily activities. It also enhances your understanding of children's and adolescents' needs and your capacity to provide for and safeguard them. Due to this, it makes up a sizable portion of what we do. It's a continuous process that begins with a thorough orientation and continues through an expanded schedule of quick one- or two-day courses. Training is a significant first step in our goal of creating a community of knowledgeable and experienced therapeutic foster parents.
