What is the need for remand foster care?

We are in desperate need of more foster caregivers who specialise in remand fostering. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have worked with juvenile offenders, such as probation or youth justice workers, police and prison personnel, youth workers, or teachers.

Remand fostering provides a safe family environment for alleged young offenders aged 10 to 17 while they await trial or punishment.

As a remand foster carer, you can provide critical support to young people when they need it the most. You can make a significant impact in a young person's life by providing them with the inspiration and support they need to have a happier and safer future.

What Is Remand Foster care?

Remand foster care provides a safe family environment for alleged young offenders aged 10 to 17 while they await trial or punishment. Custody can be harmful to vulnerable young people, continuing a cycle of incarceration and recidivism. We believe that remand foster care provides young people with the support they need to reconsider their acts and change their behaviour.

Foster carers are sometimes hesitant to accept remand foster placements because they are concerned that the children and young people would be much more complex. We will assist you in developing the skills and knowledge required for this sort of foster care. Foster caregivers who have prior experience working with teenagers can often readily make this adjustment.

Fostering in a remand facility can be difficult, but you can rest confident that you will not be alone. TACT will be at your side, giving you with assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can be confident that we will be there for you when you need us the most.

We will also supply you with a complete training programme to ensure that you are confident and capable of meeting the demands of remand. fostering criteria

Those interested in remand placements receive additional training and evaluation, and the fostering panel approves their applications. A manual for remand foster carers is provided.

When a young person is placed with you as an emergency foster carer, you will get an increased fostering fee and allowance.

The increased fee reflects the complexities of the placement as well as the additional skills and experience required to take on this type of placement.
